Hi,

1 can be done by changing following line in AutoComplete.ascx file under control templates folder. Change 2 to 1.

if (term.length < 2) {
                    return false;
                }

2. This will require a big design change.

i modified the AutoComplete.ascx and now the autocomplete is working after typing the first character. thanks.
but the problem with your great solution and also with the built-in sharepoint "people or group" column type ,, is that there is not any way to know in advance the items or users you are auto-completing against .. so from an end-user point of view does this seems to be not very user-friendly ?? .. as users need to know in advance the items they are auto-completing against .. what do u think ?

after doing extensive testing i noted the following problem:- is that if i try to edit the Advance lookup field inside the list view Quick Edit grid, then the autocomplete will not work + it will always raise an error even if i type the item manually .. could you please adivce how i can fix this ?

The current implementation makes a dynamic REST query based on what user types and queries the list to get the data for Autocomplete. However, we can change the implementation of the control so that all options are loaded first and then autocomplete will simply look into that array of options. But as mentioned earlier that will be a big design change.
As far your second question, the default behavior of custom fields is that they aren't editable in datasheet mode and perhaps also in quick edit mode.
